Research Notes on Teeth
Teeth are used for biting and chewing, which helps with digestion. Each tooth has many layers that help protect against tooth decay. The crown and the root are the main parts of a tooth.1The enamel protects the nerve inside. If the enamel is damaged, outside stimuli can reach the nerve and cause pain.2
Fast Facts:
- Children usually have 20 baby teeth.2
- Adults have 32 permanent teeth.2
