Research Notes on Teen Pregnancy and Depression
Depression is a common occurrence among pregnant teens.1 A number of feelings and emotions can overwhelm a pregnant teenager that may cause depression. These girls need proper guidance, treatment and counseling in dealing with depression to help them cope and have a healthy pregnancy.2
Fast Facts:
- Research shows that depressed teenage mothers are more likely to have another baby than those that are not depressed.3
- Depression and stress at any age can predispose a parent to neglect or abuse a child.4
- If you have symptoms of depression, tell your health care provider so he or she can help you to get treatment.1
