Research Notes on Target Heart Rate
Target heart rate (THR) is the desired range of pulse rate during cardiovascular (or aerobic) exercise. It determines the initial level of exercise, especially in people who have been physically inactive. The THR can also be used as a monitoring tool for exercise progress. People should exercise to target only up to 85% of the maximum heart rate to maximize the benefits of exercise and prevent the heart from being overworked.
