Research Notes on Tamsulosin
Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a medicine used to treat BPH (benign prostate hyperplasia).1 It belongs in a class of medications called alpha-blockers, and works by relaxing muscles in the prostate and bladder at the area of the obstruction. This helps to improve urine flow and reduce the symptoms of BPH.
Fast Facts:
- This medication is not for use in women.2
- It comes as a capsule and is taken by mouth, usually once daily.
- There is no cure for BPH.
- As many as nine out of every ten men will suffer from an enlarged prostate.
