Research Notes on Tacrolimus and Pregnancy
Tacrolimus (Prograf) use in pregnancy is not recommended. There have been no controlled studies performed in human pregnancies; therefore, risk of birth defects cannot be ruled out. Animal studies have shown adverse toxicity to the fetus. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, speak with your doctor before beginning this medication. If you have already begun tacrolimus while pregnant, your doctor should discuss the potential risks with you.1
