Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates into the esophagus. Gastritis is a term used to describe a group of conditions characterized by inflammation of the lining of the stomach. Gastritis may occur suddenly, or it can occur slowly over time. Many symptoms of gastritis are familiar with GERD: a burning pain in your upper abdomen and occasionally, belching, nausea or vomiting.
