Research Notes on Symmetrel Side Effects
Like any medication, Symmetrel carries the risk of side effects. The most common side effects associated with Symmetrel use include: nausea, insomnia, and dizziness. Serious side effects are rare, but patients should be aware they do exist. Consult with a health care professional immediately if allergic reactions, depression, or hallucinations occur.1

- Other non-serious side effects reported by Symmetrel users include: blurred vision, appetite loss, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, headache, and vivid dreams.2
- Symmetrel is approved by the FDA in the treatment of Parkinson's disease and influenza, and is sometimes prescribed off-label in the treatment of fatigue in multiple sclerosis patients.3
- Symmetrel is a brand name of the generic medication amantadine.2
