The government has declared a national health emergency as the swine flu threat grows in the U.S. As of Sunday, April 26, 2009, there have been 20 confirmed cases of swine flu in America.1 Declaring this epidemic a health emergency allows the government to release drugs to treat swine flu. It does not mean that the threat to Americans has increased.2

  • Travelers crossing borders from countries where confirmed cases of swine flu have occurred are being asked about any sickness that they may have.3
  • About 12 million doses of Tamiflu are being released from a federal stockpile.4
  • So far, the swine flu has claimed the lives of 81 people in Mexico.4
