Sweet N Low (Saccharin)

Research Notes on Sweet N Low (Saccharin)

Sweet'N Low is a popular brand of artificial sweetener in powdered form, which is 200 to 700 times sweeter than sucrose (table sugar). It was invented and first introduced in 1957 by Benjamin Eisenstadt and his son Marvin Eisenstadt. It is composed of granulated saccharin, dextrose, and cream of tartar. Having saccharin as one of its components, this artificial sweetener was believed to be associated with cancer. However, according to the National Cancer Institute, there is no clear evidence associating artificial sweeteners with cancer.
