Research Notes on Supplements for Joint Health
There are a few joint supplements available to help heal and prevent joint deterioration. In particular, glucosamine and chondroitin have been found to relieve pain and promote faster healing in worn joints. Other options may be methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) or combination supplements.1
Fast Facts:
- Glucosamine and chondroitin are used by the body to rebuild cartilage in and around the joints.2
- Both chondroitin and glucosamine help in the rebuilding of cartilage, but chondroitin is more easily absorbed by the body.2
- Fish oil can decrease inflammation around the joints, but will not aid in the healing process.2
- It will generally take about two to four weeks to notice any effects of the supplements.2
