Research Notes on Sun Poisoning Pictures
Sun poisoning is a nonscientific term, which refers to many sun-allergic reactions, classic examples being sunburn1 and polymorphous light eruption.2 Those who are sensitive to the sun can experience a reaction after being exposed to intense sun, typically in the spring or summer, and the rash usually appears as itchy, red spots, which develop up to a day after being exposed.2
Fast Facts:
- Some medications such as birth control pills, tetracycline or diuretics can make the skin more sensitive to the sun.3
- Always protect the skin while in the sun by utilizing sunscreen.
- Over the counter medications such as Tylenol or ibuprophen, aloe vera gel, and cool compresses may help reduce the discomfort of severely burned skin.4
