Research Notes on Photosensitivity
Photosensitivity is sensitivity to sunlight. Photosensitivity can occur for a number of reasons including reactions to certain medication or as part of pre-existing conditions such as lupus. Prevention is important and includes wearing sun protective clothing, minimizing sun exposure and using sunscreen.

- Often described as “sun allergy”
- Signs include itchy, patchy eruptions and hives
- Redness, inflammation and discoloration can occur
- Many drugs can sensitize the skin to sunlight
- Treatment may include corticosteroids
