A stethoscope is a medical instrument that is used to transmit low volume sounds from inside the body to the ears of the listener. Traditional acoustic stethoscopes consist of flexible tubing that connects two earpieces to a diaphragm.1 Many doctors also now use electronic stethoscopes. Many electronic stethoscopes have noise filters to reduce outside noise and can be attached to recording devices.2
Fast Facts:
- Can be used to listen to the heart, lungs, intestines, blood flow and fetal sounds.1
