- First procedures performed in the mid 1980s; U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved in 1994.1
- Approximately ninety percent of the time, coronary stents are placed in conjunction with a balloon angioplasty.1
- Although there are many types of stents, most are comprised of metal or plastic mesh-like material.2
- Risks of stenting include allergic reaction, blood clot and clogging of the stent.2
