Stuttering or stammering is a speech disorder where the normal flow of speech is disrupted. The disorder is characterized by disruptions in the production of speech sounds, also called "disfluencies." Stuttering is sometimes accompanied by rapid eye blinks or tremors. Stuttering usually starts in young children and is outgrown in early childhood. Less than 1% of adults continue to stutter.
