Research Notes on Lumbar Puncture
Commonly known as a spinal tap, a lumbar puncture is a procedure that is performed to collect and analyze cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) surrounding the brain and spinal cord.1 These samples are studied for several things, including color, blood cell counts and protein.1 A lumbar puncture is performed for many reasons, including diagnosing certain diseases and infections of the spinal cord and brain.2
