Research Notes on Sperm
Sperm is the male's reproductive cell. In humans, both the female's egg and the male's sperm are haploid cells. They each contain 23 chromosomes, that join together to form a diploid cell with 46 chromosomes. Sperm in animals are produced in the male's testicles.1
Fast Facts:
- Sperm have a very limited lifespan, living up to 3 days inside a female.1
- Sperm cells cannot divide.1
- In plants, sperm is produced in pollen.1
