Research Notes on Social Work
Social work is a profession that strives to improve people’s lives. Social workers assist people to cope with such issues as personal and family problems, disabilities, life-threatening diseases, among other social concerns.1 The profession emphasizes research, program planning and policy development in addition to direct services to individuals.1 Areas of specialization include child, family, and school social work, medical and public health social work, as well as mental health and substance abuse social work.1
