Research Notes on Skin Ulcers
Skin ulcers are open sores that can be caused by a number of different factors. Diabetes, infection, and peripheral vascular disease can lead to skin ulcers in patients.1 Skin ulcers can be red in appearance and can often lead to open sores that have oozing fluid. Over-the-counter topical antibiotics are used in the treatment of skin ulcers.

- Doctors may prescribe metronidazole or bacitracin for treatment.1
- Aloe vera may be used to improve healing.1
- One type of skin ulcers, pressure ulcers, is usually found in people that are confined to a bed or chair.
