Research Notes on Sinus Rinse
A sinus rinse, also called nasal irrigation, is a practice in which a saline solution is used to rinse out the sinus cavities.1 A sinus rinse is sometimes useful for those who suffer from conditions such as the common cold, sinusitis, nasal dryness, hay fever, nasal congestion, and sinus pressure.1 A sinus rinse works by cleaning mucus from the nose and sinuses so that medication may work more effectively, removing bacteria and viruses, and decreasing swelling while increasing air flow.2
Fast Facts:
- When performing a sinus rinse, try to stay leaned over the sink with your head down.2
- Sinus Rinse is also the name of a prepackaged kit designed to irrigate the sinuses.2
- Sinus rinsing is considered safe with very little risk of side effects.1
