Research Notes on Simvastatin
Simvastatin is the generic version of the brand name Zocor. It is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol in the body. Lowering your cholesterol can help prevent heart disease and hardening of the arteries, conditions that can lead to heart attack, stroke, and vascular disease. Simvastatin is the first drug shown to reduce the total death rate by reducing LDL concentrations in people with coronary heart disease.
Fast Facts:
- In rare cases, simvastatin can cause kidney failure.
- Do not use simvastatin if you are pregnant.
