Research Notes on Seroquel for PMDD
Studies are being conducted to investigate the addition of quetiapine (Seroquel) to antidepressant treatment of premenstrual dysphoric disorder PMDD.1 While antidepressants are the first line treatment for PMDD, some women do not experience enough relief of their symptoms with SSRI or SNRI antidepressants alone.1 The goal is to determine if the addition of Seroquel (an FDA approved psychiatric medicine) to an antidepressant regimen will successfully manage PMDD symptoms.1
Fast Facts:
- Seroquel may be prescribed for PMDD when insomnia is present.2
- Some physicians report Seroquel has a mood-stabilizing effect on their PMDD patients.2
- Some PMDD patients may be non-compliant when they discover that Seroquel is an anti-psychotic due to stigma concerns.3
