Research Notes on Bipolar Disorder and Seroquel XR


The makers of Seroquel XR, AstraZeneca, have announced this medication's approval as a treatment for bipolar disorder (manic depression). This comes in addition to previous approval for schizophrenia. Seroquel XR (quetiapine) will now be marketed as a treatment for the depressive, mixed, and manic episodes of bipolar I.1

  • Seroquel XR is available in 50 mg, 150 mg, 200 mg, 300 mg, and 400 mg tablet strengths.2
  • This drug may also be used with divalproex or lithium in the treatment of bipolar disorder.2
