Research Notes on Seroquel Overdose
A doctor should be called immediately if any signs of a Seroquel (quetiapine) overdose appear. Signs and symptoms of an overdose include seizures, dry mouth, increased thirst, decreased urine, low blood pressure, low blood potassium, mood changes, muscle pain or cramps, nausea, vomiting, numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips, weakness, or irregular heart rhythm.1 2 A Seroquel overdose can lead to coma and death.2
Fast Facts:
- In an acute overdose, a doctor will want to maintain an airway.3
- The patient's gastrointestinal system should be cleared via gastric lavage, activated charcoal, and a laxative.3
- There is no specific antidote for a Seroquel overdose.3
- Psychiatrists say that, for the most part, antipsychotic medications are extremely safe and well tolerated.
