Research Notes on Septic Arthritis

Septic arthritis is the invasion of a joint by either viral, bacterial, or fungal agents, and other agents such as staphylococcus, candida albicans, or a puncture wound. These infect the joint and cause the build up of fluid. This can be a very serious condition, as the infection will eventually destroy the joint if it is left untreated. It is also quite painful. The infectious agent can enter the joint through the bloodstream from another infection elsewhere within the body.
