Research Notes on Septate Uterus

Septate uterus, also known as uterine septum, is a congenital malformation of the uterus where the uterine cavity is divided by a longitudinal septum. The division can be partial (incomplete septum) or complete (complete septum) which produces a double cervix.1 About 15% of women who have recurrent miscarriages due to anatomical problems have a septate uterus.2

  • Pregnant women with a septate uterus have a 25% - 47% chance of miscarriage.3
  • Is considered a type of Müllerian duct abnormality.4
  • No treatment is necessary unless a woman experiences recurrent pregnancy losses, and then sugery is the only option.
