Research Notes on Sentinel Node Biopsy
A sentinel node biopsy is a surgical procedure to remove lymph node tissue to see if cancer has spread to the lymph nodes from the original site of the cancer. The lymph node tissue is removed from the underarm area next to the breast. If the sentinel node contains tumor cells the lymph nodes will probably have to be removed and sent to the lab for further testing.
