Research Notes on Seniors Falling May Cause Severe Brain Injury


According to a recent report from the United State Center for Disease Control and Prevention, traumatic brain injuries account for almost half of the fatalities from falls in Americans over the age of 65. Researchers studied over 16,000 deaths in 2005 alone while trying to figure what role brain injuries play in elderly falls. The final report found that 8,000 deaths were caused by brain injuries along with over 55,000 hospitalizations among the elderly in 2005.
