Research Notes on Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM)
Selective estrogen receptor modulator is a medication that acts like estrogen in some tissues. In other tissues it blocks the estrogen signals from getting into the receptor that tells the cells to grow.1 It is used instead of HRT because of the benefits of estrogen without the risk of cancer.2

- Three SERM's are clomiphene, raloxifene and tamoxifen.3
- Tamoxifen (brand name Nolvadex) is the most precribed SERM.4
- Effective in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer.5
