Research Notes on Seizures
A seizure is a disturbance in electrical activity in the brain. Seizures can cause involuntary body movements. Some last only a few moments; however, a continuous seizure (status epilepticus) can go on until the person receives medical intervention.
Fast Facts:
- A seizure longer than five minutes is a medical emergency.
- Unprovoked seizures are often associated with epilepsy and related seizure disorders.
- An MRI and EEG may be performed to help determine what is causing the seizures.
