Research Notes on Scoliosis Brace
Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side, and may also be rotated. It is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. Bracing is only done when the patient has bone growth remaining, and is generally implemented in order to hold the curve and prevent it from progressing to the point where surgery is necessary. Bracing involves fitting the patient with a device that covers the torso and in some cases it extends to the neck. ...read more from Wikipedia
Fast Facts:
- Thoracic-lumbar-sacral orthosis (TLSO) is usually worn 22-23 hours a day and applies pressure on the curves in the spine.1
- If the curve is 20 to 40 degrees, the orthopedist will generally suggest a back brace.2
- An undershirt should be worn underneath the brace.3
