Scleroderma means hardening of the skin. It is caused by excessive deposits of collagen and scar tissue in the skin or other organs in the body. Approximately 10% of patients develop elevated pressures in the blood vessels to the lungs (pulmonary hypertension). Treatment varies depending on the type of scleroderma.
Fast Facts:

- Symptoms of scleroderma include calcium deposits in connective tissues, raynaud's phenomenon, (narrowing of blood vessels in the hands or feet), swelling of the esophagus, thick, tight skin on your fingers and red spots on your hands and face
