Research Notes on Scleral Buckle


Scleral buckling is the most common surgical procedure for retinal detachment repair. A scleral buckle, usually made of silicone, is placed on the sclera (the white of the eye) and sewn to keep it in place. This relieves the pull on the retina, allowing the tear to rest against the wall of the eye. The procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia, and if without complications, the patient can go home on the same day of the operation.
