Scarlet fever is an infection caused by the group A streptococcus bacteria, the same bacteria that causes strep throat. The rash associated with the fever looks similar to a sunburn and feels like sandpaper. It goes away on its own after about about six to nine days.1 Below are photos of a scarlet fever rash.
