Research Notes on Sample Obituary Formats
An obituary is a notice of the recent passing away of an individual and usually gives a short account of the person's life.1 An obituary published in the newspaper is referred to as a "funeral notice." Nowadays, it is common for people write their own obituaries, which may sound morbid, but it can help a person to take a look at his life and may lead to a life altering experience.2 Below are some samples of obituary formats.
Fast Facts:
- It is said that the first obituary came after the popularization of the printing press during 1500s.1
- They were concise, containing the deceased name, birth date, death date, and cause of death.1
- In early 1900s and 2000s, obituaries became digitized and available on the internet.1
