St. Bernards Medical Center is a non-profit acute care hospital that was founded by the Olivetan Benedictine Sisters in 1900.1 2 It was built in response to a malaria fever epidemic in 1899. Today, it is considered the largest employer in northeast Arkansas with more than 2,200 employees under its management. The St. Bernards Healthcare, the corporate parent of the medical center, partnered with the Arkansas State University (ASU) in 2004 to build a facility to house a student health clinic, a sports medicine program, and a FirstCare Family Practice Clinic.3

  • Services offered by the facility are hospice, nuclear medicine, pastoral care, nutritional services, and organ donation.1
  • The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer awarded the Ben E. Owens Cancer Treatment Center at St. Bernards a full three year approval for their commitment to maintaining the Cancer program (the highest approval).4
