Research Notes on Systole
Systole is the period of time in which the left ventricle of the heart is contracting.1 The systolic pressure is the maximum pressure during the contraction of the left ventricle.1 In a blood pressure reading, it is the top number.1
Fast Facts:
- A normal systole reading is about 120 millimeters of mercury.2
- A systolic murmur is a heart murmur heard during the systole.1
- Is pronounced sis-toe-lee.1
