Research Notes on Robotic Heart Surgery
Robot assisted heart surgery is also known as closed chest heart surgery. This is a minimally invasive procedure performed by cardiac surgeons. They use a computer to control the instruments held in robotic arms to operate on the heart.1

- Allows for smaller incisions and more precise movements.1
- A year after having the robotic bypass performed, all 19 patients from the pilot study remained free of complications and of angina.2
- The procedure reduces risks of infection, decreases post operative pain, and allows for quicker recovery.3
