Research Notes on Rhythm Method
Rhythm method is one of the oldest methods of fertility awareness. It utilizes a calendar to track days of ovulation. Usually, a woman has a 28-day menstrual cycle. The first few days (days 1-7), when a woman menstruates, are considered infertile days. The next phase of the cycle, days 8-20, are regarded fertile days, with ovulation taking place on the 14th day, which is the middle of a 28-day cycle. On the 20th and following days, the woman is deemed infertile, up to the time she starts menstruating again; thus, the cycle is complete. To keep tract of fertile and non-fertile days, a woman should know the exact duration of her menstrual cycle.
