Research Notes on Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty -- also known as a "nose job" -- is a surgical procedure performed on the nose. It is done to improve the function of the nose (reconstructive surgery or septoplasty), to improve the appearance of the nose (cosmetic surgery), or both (septorhinoplasty).
Fast Facts:
- Every year half a million people consult with facial plastic surgeons about rhinoplasty.1
- Rhinoplasty can straighten the bridge of the nose, reshape the tip of the nose, change the overall size of the nose, and change the angle between the nose and upper lip.2
- Rhinoplasty can repair the nose following an injury, correct a birth defect, or improve some breathing difficulties, such as those caused by a deviated septum.2
