Research Notes on Rheumatoid Arthritis and Weather

Studies have shown conflicting results about a link between arthritis and the weather. In one study, it appears that rheumatoid arthritis sufferers who live in environments of high humidity and high pressure experience more pain.1 Some arthritis patients also claim to be able to predict rain based on their arthritic pain.2

Fast Facts:

  • A report in the American Journal of Medicine decribes a possible link between arthritis pain and the weather, though it is still uncertain how this is so.3
  • The weather does not affect all arthritis sufferers.4
  • While there is some evidence that the weather influences joint pain, there are no signs that it will further joint damage.4
