Research Notes on Rheumatoid Arthritis and Inflammation
Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by inflammation of the joints. Researchers are not entirely sure what causes this inflammation, but it is believed that genes and environmental triggers, such as smoking, play a role.1 Recent research also indicates that rheumatoid arthritis-related inflammation may increase the risk of cardiovascular death.2
