Research Notes on Rheumatoid Arthritis Triggers
According to researchers, the exact triggers for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) remain unknown. While certain types of infections, injuries, bacteria, and abnormal genes are known to alter the immune system, they have yet to be positively identified as triggering rheumatoid arthritis.1 Researches also believe that stress in a patient's life may also trigger rheumatoid arthritis.2

- Hormonal changes are known to trigger RA in women.1
- Some foods such as tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, and peppers have also been found to trigger symptoms of RA in some people.3
- RA affects nearly two million people in the United States.4
