Research Notes on Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk Factors
Factors which can increase your risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis include your sex, age, family history, and smoking.1 Other factors which may increase your risk include a history of blood transfusion, your ethnic background, weight, and possibly the amount of coffee you consume.2
Fast Facts:
- Women are more prone to the development of RA than men. In addition, women who experience difficulty in conceiving due to unstable hormone levels may be at an even greater risk.2
- Those who are obese, smokers, and lighter skinned appear to be at a higher risk of developing the disease.2
- You are most likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis between the ages of 25 and 45, although it can strike at any age.2
