Research Notes on Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic autoimmune disorder. It is a type of arthritis that causes the immune system to attack the lining of the joints eventually causing deformity. Rheumatoid arthritis causes inflammation, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. The most common joints that are affected by rheumatoid arthritis are the wrists and fingers.1

- Treatment often includes physical therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, steroids and other medications that may help to modify the course of the disease.1
- Rheumatoid arthritis is diagnosed with blood tests and x-rays.2
