Reifenstein syndrome is a disease in which the body is unable to respond appropriately to the male sex hormones.1 These horomones are called androgens and they include testosterone.1 This syndrome is passed down through families as an inherited trait.1

  • Some alternative names for Reifenstein syndrome are partial androgen insensitivity syndrome and incomplete male pseudohermaphroditism.1
  • This syndrome also causes underdevelopment of the male reproductive tract.1
  • The effect of the condition can range from the presence of normal female sexual characteristics to normal male sexual characteristics or a combination of both.2
  • Reifenstein syndrome affects less than 200,000 people in the US population.2
