Research Notes on Reduced Libido
A reduced libido is a situation in which there is a lack of sexual desire. The reduction in libido can occur from many things, including psychological factors (loss of privacy or intimacy, stress, or depression), physical factors, lifestyle (being over or underweight), and medications.1 In order to treat the decreased libido, one must determine whether the cause is physical or psychological.2
Fast Facts:
- As the testosterone level naturally declines in men with age, reduced libido occurs as well.3
- Individuals suffering from thyroid disorders may notice a decrease in libido.
- Stress reduction techniques, as well as discontinuing medications which may be at the root of decreased libido can help to reverse the situation.4
