Research Notes on Rash From Tanning Bed
Rashes that appear after using a tanning bed are caused by an allergic reaction to the ultraviolet (UV) light emitted by the device. Allergy to UV rays or light is called photodermatitis or sun poisoning. This condition can be treated through medications, phototherapy (to desensitize the skin through controlled amounts of light exposure) and nutritional or dietary modifications. Some also claim that poor maintenance and cleaning of the tanning bed may result to appearance of rashes.
