Research Notes on Retinoids
Retinoids are a class of chemical compounds that are related chemically to vitamin A. Retinoids are used in medicine, primarily due to the way they regulate epithelial cell growth. Retinoids have many important and diverse functions throughout the body including roles in vision, regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, growth of bone tissue, immune function, and activation of tumor suppressor genes. ...read more at Wikipedia

- Topical retinoids are safer than oral retinoid medicines.1
- Used for treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia and the prevention of high risk cancer group malignancies.2
- Woman who are pregnant or who are planning to become pregnant should not take retinoids, as they can cause birth defects.1
