A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in the pulmonary artery or one of its branches. Treatment options vary depending on the severity of symptoms and the root cause of the clotting.1 Medications, emergency surgery or a vena cava filter may be treatment options.2

- Warfarin and heparin may be given as treatment.1
